Studio

Village Recording is my project studio. Just about everything I've released over the last five years has been created in this room. It's a simple but effective track and mix facility, at least for my needs. You can see from the photograph above I've got a relatively inspiring view of New York, and hear from this balcony recording that there's also a relatively bothersome amount of ambient noise to contend with. Especially if I don't close the window. As this place is intended primarily for the recording of acoustic styles, I don't indulge in a lot of looping or sampling here. If I find myself getting involved in a more electronic approach to a project I take it up to my friend Tom Desisto's rig in Woodstock, or occasionally over to MediaNoise in Brooklyn. These guys also master my stuff. Recording here has really afforded me the time, and mental space, to create music in the way that I feel I should. I've spent hours on one sound, or scurried through five overdubs at five in the morning, the common thread being my own inner imperative. A lot of good material has been unearthed by exploiting this freedom.
